La SMC a accueilli 600 math\u00e9maticien.ne.s \u00e0 sa R\u00e9union virtuelle d\u2019hiver qui a eu lieu du 2 au 7 d\u00e9cembre. Cela a \u00e9t\u00e9 la quatri\u00e8me r\u00e9union virtuelle de la SMC. Les participant.e.s ont pu assister \u00e0 plus que 30 sessions scientifiques, \u00e0 quatre conf\u00e9rences pl\u00e9ni\u00e8res; \u00e0 deux conf\u00e9rences de laur\u00e9at.e.s et \u00e0 une conf\u00e9rence publique durant les 5 jours de la R\u00e9union. Les conf\u00e9renciers.\u00e8res pl\u00e9ni\u00e8res \u00e9taient : Richard Hoshino (Northeastern University); Doina Precup (McGilll University); Rediet Abebe (University of California Berkeley) et Dimitris Koukoulopoulos (University of Montreal).<\/p>\n<p>La SMC a \u00e9galement offert des mini-cours de trois heures le jeudi 2 d\u00e9cembre. Le trois mini-cours offerts \u00e9taient les suivants&nbsp;: un cours gratuit d\u2019introduction \u00e0 la programmation Maple; introduction \u00e0 l\u2019autosimilarit\u00e9; et introduction \u00e0 la mod\u00e9lisation des maladies infectieuses apr\u00e8s la vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 la fin de la journ\u00e9e de jeudi, la SMC a organis\u00e9 une conf\u00e9rence pl\u00e9ni\u00e8re d\u00e9livr\u00e9e par Caroline Colijn (Simon Fraser University) intitul\u00e9e \u00ab&nbsp;Mathematics and the pandemic&nbsp;: des populations aux inividus\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9union a toutefois eu son ouverture officielle vendredi apr\u00e8s-midi avec les mots de bienvenue du Pr\u00e9sident de la SMC Javad Mashreghi.<\/p>\n<p>Le comit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9tudiant.es de la SMCS (StudC) a tenu un cocktail virtuel pour offrir aux \u00e9tudiant.e.s la chance de r\u00e9seauter dans une ambiance non universitaire all\u00e9g\u00e9e par des activit\u00e9s de brise-glace, et des jeux math\u00e9matiques.<\/p>\n<p>Dans le cadre de la R\u00e9union, Nicholas Fillion et Martiza Branker ont organis\u00e9 une table ronde le mardi 7 d\u00e9cembre. La discussion portait principalement sur les femmes en histoire des math\u00e9matiques.<\/p>\n<p>La R\u00e9union d\u2019hiver 2021 a aussi offert aux participant.es l\u2019occasion de r\u00e9seauter avec leurs pairs et les individus avec qui iels partagent les m\u00eames int\u00e9r\u00eats dans les forums virtuels et pendant des \u00e9v\u00e8nements sociaux.<\/p>\n<p>Il ne nous a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible de tenir la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de prix comme d\u2019habitude, mais la SMC a reconnu les laur\u00e9at.e.s 2021 des prix de la SMC pendant la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019ouverture et les laur\u00e9at.e.s ont aussi pr\u00e9par\u00e9 un court expos\u00e9. Les laur\u00e9at.es 2021 des prix de la SMC sont comme suit&nbsp;: Joseph Khoury (Ottawa) laur\u00e9at du prix Adrien-Pouliot, Luke Postle (Waterloo) laur\u00e9at du prix Coxeter-James qui a aussi pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 une communication sur la conjecture de Hardwiger, Christopher Liaw (Toronto) laur\u00e9at du prix de doctorat Blair Spearman de la SMC a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 une communication intitul\u00e9e \u00ab&nbsp;Optimal anytime regret with two experts&nbsp;\u00bb, et Kseniya Garashuk (Fraser Valley) laur\u00e9ate du prix Graham Wright.<\/p>\n<p>Le prix de meilleure pr\u00e9sentation par affiche d\u2019AARMS-SMC a aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 pendant cet \u00e9v\u00e8nement virtuel. Les gagnant.es sont : le prix AARMS \u00e0&nbsp;Benoit Corsini (McGill University) pour son affiche intitul\u00e9e \u201cLocal minimum spanning tree optimization\u201d; prix du comit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9tudiant.es de la SMC \u00e0 Tian Wang (University of Illinois Chicago) pour son affiche intitul\u00e9e \u00ab&nbsp;On the Effective Version of Serre&rsquo;s Open Image Theorem&nbsp;\u00bb; et le Prix du Pr\u00e9sident de la SMC \u00e0 Gavin Orok (Waterloo University) pour l\u2019affiche intitul\u00e9e \u00ab&nbsp;Patterns in Higher-Dimensional Electron Domain Geometries&nbsp;\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Organiser une r\u00e9union de cette envergure prend beaucoup de d\u00e9vouement et du travail acharn\u00e9. Cette r\u00e9union n\u2019aura pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible sans les efforts du comit\u00e9 d\u2019organisation scientifique, les directeur.rice.s scintifiques, les organisateur.rices des sessions et le personnel de la SMC. Les directeur.rices scientifiques Nils Bruin (Simon Fraser University) et Nilima Nigam (Simon Fraser University) ont \u0153uvr\u00e9 sans rel\u00e2che pour offrir un grand programme scientifique.
