This five-day program brings together undergraduate students from across Canada who identify as women or other underrepresented gender identities in mathematics and related fields.

Participants will spend an inspiring week learning new mathematics—this year with a focus on Combinatorics and Graph Theory, highlighting algebraic methods—while connecting with influential women and gender-diverse mathematicians. Beyond the academic program, the school offers professional development sessions, panel discussions, and plenty of opportunities to build a supportive national network of peers and mentors. One can find more details of the program at the following link: https://sites.google.com/view/idms2026/home

Last year’s school Diversity in Mathematics 2024 that took place in Halifax, and was hosted by Dalhousie University, left a strong impression on students. One participant from University of Waterloo shared with her mentor:

I had an excellent week! I learned a lot of neat math, and the environment was very supportive and collaborative. I met and became friends with many math students from all over Canada, and a couple from the US and Mexico. I am extremely grateful for the experience to connect with students and mentors in the math community from various backgrounds. We had plenty of opportunity to learn and collaborate with each other through engaging lectures and activities. It was also exciting to explore the city of Halifax throughout the program!

The program is open to undergraduates at Canadian universities who have completed at least two years of math-related studies (or CEGEP plus one year for Quebec students) and identify as women or another underrepresented gender identity. Space is limited to about 35 students, and applications, including a reference letter and transcripts, are due December 15.

All participants will receive accommodation and meals, and limited travel support is available. Applicants are encouraged to seek matching funding from their departments, student unions, or research supervisors.

If you know eligible students eager to learn new math, connect with a vibrant community, and grow in a supportive and engaging environment, the 2026 IDMS Summer School is a remarkable opportunity. Encourage them to apply and become part of this growing network of future mathematicians.

Application Information: Students are asked to complete this application form and have one letter of reference from a professor or instructor submitted to this reference form.
