March 2026 (Vol. 58, No. 2)

On November 7, 2025, Dr. Barbara Csima resigned from her position as President of the Canadian Mathematical Society. Dr. Csima served the CMS as president during a period of significant challenges that demanded extraordinary levels of time and commitment from all members of the Executive Committee and Board, well above and beyond what any of us anticipated when we took on these positions.

We acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and contributions that Dr. Csima has made to the CMS, both before and during her time as president. Dr. Csima, whose research is in computability theory and logic, is an outstanding mathematician in the Department of Pure Mathematics at the University of Waterloo who contributes greatly to the Canadian mathematical community.

Dr. Ilia Binder of the University of Toronto, who had been serving as Vice-President (Ontario), has been appointed as President for the remainder of Dr. Csima’s term. His vice-presidential role has been filled by Dr. Monica Nevins of the University of Ottawa.

We would like to apologise for the delay in clearly notifying our members of this change in our leadership.
